Why We Love Namibia

LANDSCAPE & SCENERY

Luxury safaris in Namibia are all about the landscapes, with scenery like no other African state and varying dramatically across the country. Sossusvlei is a photographer’s dream, home to the iconic rolling red sand dunes and eerie salt pans scattered with scorched tree skeletons. The Skeleton Coast (named so due to the abundance of shipwrecks and whale carcasses dotted along the coastline) is where the choppy seas of the Atlantic Ocean meet towering sand dunes. Or head to Damaraland on a luxury holiday in Namibia for a walk amongst the jagged rocks surrounded by intensely beautiful earth colours.

NAMIBIA FROM THE SKY

The barren spectacle of the Namibian landscapes are best viewed from the sky – a breathtaking way to reach the most inaccessible locations. Catch a flying luxury safari along the Skeleton Coast to spot shipwrecks and seal colonies, or soar over the 80 million-year-old expansive Namib Desert, best viewed against the bright blue morning light. Skydive from Swakopmund, the adventure capital of Namibia. Or opt for the tranquillity of a hot air balloon over the dunes of Sossusvlei.

ANIMAL ADVENTURES

Unlike other African countries, wild game is not a focal point in Namibia. However, in its place is a vast array of alternative activities on offer from traditional luxury safaris, from kayaking with seals to spotting pelicans and dolphins whilst onboard a catamaran. Go quad biking over sand dunes in Swakopmund or track remarkable desert-adapted wildlife in Damaraland, for a different but hugely rewarding experience. Living Desert tours are a great way to get under the skin of your surroundings as you discover first hand “The Little Five” on a luxury Namibia safari.

CULTURE

Namibia’s native Himba people are thought to be one of the last fully nomadic tribes in the world, living in complete isolation and constantly moving around great expanses of northern Namibia. Get up close to this fascinating culture on a guided luxury travel excursion in Damaraland. For a fully immersive and authentic experience, we would suggest heading north towards the Angolan border, where a specialist guide can lead you off the beaten track and into contact with the tradition-focused tribe.

Atilla

The journey to Namibia and Serra Cafema was the best trip I’ve ever done. I really loved the remote camp, the way we travelled there (flying over the endless dunes and amazing coastline in a private plane) and the infinite hospitality, knowledge and passion of the whole team. We enjoyed a lot of activities: we visited the Himba people, which was the experience of a lifetime, took a quad bike tour and boat tour. For my birthday, they organised a private dinner at a beautiful, remote location.
