Why We Love Zanzibar

DIVERS PARADISE

Characterised by its stunning shades of blue waters and shifting sands, the Swahili coast in the Indian Ocean is a top destination for divers. Very different to Zanzibar itself, the mountainous, thickly forested island of Pemba (situated to the north) offers an exclusive experience with untouched islands and undiscovered stretches of sand. A paradisiacal place for keen divers, the turquoise water and healthy coral reefs provide the best driving in East Africa. Similarly, the tranquillity of Mafia Island, situated to the south, offers some of the richest reefs in the world and is one of the few destinations that guarantee whale shark sightings in the right season.

AUTHENTIC BEACHES

Described as the soul of the islands, Unguja Island boasts clear blue water, rich marine life, and a truly Hakuna Matata way of life. Home to the sleepy but atmospheric city of Stone Town – a World Heritage Site – you’ll discover a thriving on-land local culture and an enchanting jumble of cobbled streets. Head to the island not only for impressive diving and snorkelling, but for an intimate and peaceful beach destination free from the crowds. Set in the harmonious environment of pure white sands and turquoise seas, stay in a lodge for the perfect accommodation in beautiful surroundings.

STAND ALONE DESTINATION

Sunshine, soft white sand, the serene tropical Indian Ocean and the smell of spices on the trade winds; there is something mysterious and evocative in Zanzibar’s nature. It is featured on most bucket-lists and for many visitors is considered a stand-alone destination with a laid-back and charming atmosphere. Sundowners on a traditional dhow boat off Mafia Island is a particular highlight.

IDEAL FOR SAFARIS

Due to ease of access, Zanzibar works beautifully alongside an East African safari in mainland Africa. With complete ease, you can go from breakfast in the bush to dinner on the beach by using direct, light aircraft flights and convenient connection times.

Mark & Susan

True Travel planned our honeymoon to Uganda, Rwanda and Zanzibar. The insight of the team at TLT helped us choose locations and lodges which otherwise we’d never have known about – they also saved us over £1,000 by recommending cost saving flights and other logistics. I have already recommended their service to friends and will continue to do so.
