Art and architecture
Singapore is a tapestry of art and architecture that weaves cultural expression with modern flair throughout the city. The iconic arches of Marina Bay Sands are the gateway to an art trail that celebrates artists and sculptors from Singapore and around the world. Throughout the trail you can view the largest fountain in the world, the Fountain of Wealth, that offers good fortune for those who visit, the famous Merlion statue that depicts a half-lion, half-fish mythical creature and the kaleidoscopic Momentum sculpture that pays homage to the Singaporeans who contributed to its flourishing society today.
Following this art trail will not only unveil the community and creativity that has built the city into one of the most forward-thinking and revolutionary destinations on Earth, but it will also take you past the most famous sites, through the most charming neighbourhoods and into the most dazzling corners of the city and is one of our favourite ways to explore Singapore in all its glory.
Retail therapy
Dating back to the 1830’s, Singapore’s most renowned district for high-end retail and dining is Orchard Road. Here, you can start your day at the country’s oldest department store, Tangs, before taking a stroll to ION Orchard, a shining mall that pays homage to the futuristic style of Singapore’s architecture whilst housing hundreds of stores spanning across eight levels.
Whilst you are there, we would also recommend stopping in at the ION Art Gallery to immerse yourself in exhibitions of the moment that are creative displays from across the world before finishing the day with a tipple at The Grande Whisky Collection where you can enjoy an intimate private tasting tour of the world’s rarest and oldest whiskies.
Flavours of the city
Singapore’s food scene has evolved significantly over the last few decades with accolades being awarded not only to leading restaurants but also to street vendors who symbolise the attitude of a true Singaporean chef. In 2016, two food stalls in the city became the first ever street vendors to win a Michelin star. Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle Stall and Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle Stall were both recognised by the world-renowned guide to acknowledge and celebrate the extraordinary standard of their dishes. Instead of dining under crystal chandeliers, guests enjoy the food among bustling ‘hawker centres’ that embody a rich appreciation for Singapore’s authentic gastronomy.
