Why we love it
This boutique hotel is comprised of 12 gorgeous suites set in the palm fringed jungle and tea plantations of Southern Sri Lanka, mostly with their own private pools. All of the suites are freestanding villas with open-air living and dining pavilions to maximise breezes and views over the gardens to Koggala Lake. The interiors are decorated with artwork and artefacts from across Asia such as stately teak furniture and blue-white china, but also have contemporary touches. Each room is individually designed and extremely comfortable and three of the villas have their own pools.
The hotel has plenty of facilities, a swimming pool, a yoga pavilion with a resident yoga teacher, a spa for massages, a fitness suite and television room with beanbags.
Dining takes place in the atmospheric, open-aired dining pavilion or it’s glass-balconied extension. It’s also possible to arrange private dining. The daily-changing set menus for lunch and dinner always include a Sri Lankan option, as well as international fusion cuisine.
Visit the ramparts around sunset and walk around the fort walls while learning of the Portuguese, Dutch, and British history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Take a boat trip to spot whales about an hour off the southern coast. While sighting blue whales and sperm whales, keep an eye out for spinner and bottlenose dolphins.
Bike through green paddy fields to the coast, ending at the beach for a swim and a cocktail.
Explore Koggala Lake by boat, visiting the Talathuduwa Temple and a spice garden. Stop at a small island to meet a couple who harvest cinnamon and float through a bird sanctuary.
Visit the Handunugoda tea estate to tour the factory, learn how to produce tea, have a sampling and discover their specialty white tea.
Prepare traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry based on recipes handed down from generation to generation.
Beginners and experts alike can catch a wave at many of Sri Lanka's southern beaches, which offer a variety of surf conditions.

We had an amazing holiday in Sri Lanka. All the hotels, transfers, trips and experiences arranged by True Travel were perfect and all the arrangements went seamlessly according to plan. Our guide and driver, Thusita, was a really nice man and so knowledgeable, going out of his way to make sure that we experienced many of the Sri Lankan foods and traditions as possible. I would recommend True Travel to anyone especially if you have not visited the country before.
