Embark on an adventure in Argentina where diverse activities await, from tango lessons to fly-fishing and horse riding, amidst the awe-inspiring glacial landscape featuring highlights like the Perito Moreno Glacier.
Day 1 - 2: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Day 3 - 5: San Martin De Los Andes
Day 6 - 7: El Calafate
Day 8 - 10: El Chalten
Day 11: Buenos Aires
Let the beauty of this sultry city sink in with two days to explore the music, cuisine and art that makes Buenos Aires such an exciting destination.
Stay in the residential neighbourhood of Palermo Soho at the Legado Mitico, one of our favourite boutique hotels tucked away in these leafy streets. From Palermo, you are within easy reach of many independent cafes, shops and restaurants. During your stay, we will arrange for our local guide to meet you at the hotel and take you on a half-day exploration of Buenos Aires. Start in Palermo and wind through to the Recoleta Cemetery, the old dockyards of Puerto Madero and the antique quarters of San Telmo and La Boca.
A private tango lesson might not be high on everyone’s list, but we can guarantee it will be full of fun and laughter – it’s an experience our clients rave about. After you’ve learnt some of the moves, join the locals at a traditional milonga, held in a community hall where everyone dances together and the vibe is welcoming and inclusive.
The flight from Buenos Aires to San Martin de Los Andes has beautiful birds-eye views of the mountainous landscape below. Estancia Tipiliuke is a short drive from the local airport. Tipiliuke was one of the first estancias established in Northern Patagonia, and there are thousands of acres to explore at a pace that challenges and rewards. The service and food are exceptional, and the river trails and mountain hikes are a stunning introduction to Patagonian life.
We will arrange for a full day with a private guide to discover some of the most scenic spots on the estate. Horseback riding, fly-fishing and rafting can also be arranged directly with the estancia for an extra charge.
Arriving in El Calafate, your guide and driver will take you to Eolo Lodge, where you will stay for two nights exploring the ancient glaciers that continue to carve their way through these timeless valleys. Eolo is conveniently located halfway between the city of El Calafate and Los Glaciares National Park. Surrounded by 10,000 acres of private land with mountain views from every aspect, this is a haven and one of our favourite luxury lodges in Patagonia.
We will include a full day with a private trekking guide to take you ice trekking and to a stunning viewpoint of the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the Patagonian Ice Field.
Tucked into a native forest and with views of the peaks of the Fitzroy Massif in the distance, Chalten Camp is a perfect retreat for nature lovers. The camp prides itself on a light footprint ensuring minimum impact on the pristine environment of the reserve.
Days can be spent trekking on some of the best trails in the National Park. Hikes include the beautiful walk to Laguna de Los Tres with views of three glaciers plunging into mountain lagoons. Other adventure experiences include mountain biking, salmon fishing, bird watching, or lying in a hammock by the river.
As ever, we will plan a special final night for you in Buenos Aires before you continue your journey tomorrow. We suggest staying at the Sofitel in Recoleta tonight with easy access to some fantastic restaurants in the centre of town and a short drive to the international airport for your flight tomorrow.
If you want to extend your South American adventure, ask us about the exciting extensions we can plan for you. From the Atacama Desert in Chile to the rainforests of Brazil, there is no end to the adventures that will complement your Patagonian trekking journey.
