Botswana Guides and Information

Unlike many of Africa’s other safari orientated destinations, Botswana remains a destination that can be visited throughout the year.

The summer rainy season a viable time to travel, thanks largely to how well the rains drain through the sands of the Kalahari Desert that covers much of the country. This, coupled with amazing wildlife viewing and prices that can be less than half of what they are in the drier winter months, it is an incredible time to visit for those that don’t mind the heat and some rain storms.

That said, the traditional dry season months are still incredibly popular and offer some of the finest game viewing anywhere in Africa.

Botswana Hotspots

Whether you’re looking to float down the waterways of Chobe National Park, take in the lunar-like landscapes of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans or quad bike on the sands of the Kalahari Desert, Botswana provides the ultimate outdoor playground.

Chobe National Park

Undoubtedly one of Africa’s most beautiful rivers, the Chobe supports a diversity and concentration of wildlife unparalled anywhere else in the country. Established in 1968, the park covers approximately 11,700 sq kms, encompassing floodplains, swamps and woodland. There are four distinct geographical areas in the park: the Chobe Riverfront, the Ngwezumba pans, Savuti and Linyanti.

The most accessible and frequently visited of Botswana’s big game country, the Chobe Riverfront is most famous for its large herds of elephants and Cape Buffalo, which during the dry winter months converge upon the river to drink.

Okavango Delta

As one of the most sought after wilderness destinations in the world, the Okavango Delta gives entrance to the wild Africa that dreams are made of; the heart-stopping excitement of big game viewing, the supreme tranquility and serenity of an untouched delta.

The Okavango Delta is situated deep within the Kalahari Basin, and is often referred to as the jewel of the Kalahari.
