Why we love it
The Kandy House is a carefully-renovated old colonial ‘Walauwa’ (ancestral mansion) in the spice-growing hills that surround Kandy. It is a small, boutique hotel offering stylish and private accommodation and attentive personal service in a beautiful natural setting.
The inspired refurbishment, with its white interiors, polished hardwood floorboards, jackwood staircase, Dutch-style antique furniture and careful injections of colour, has been a triumph. Channa Daswatta, one of Geoffrey Bawa’s proteges and Sri Lanka’s leading modern architects, provided the
creative inspiration. The bedrooms are unquestionably the finest in Kandy.
The freshwater infinity pool in the garden and wide verandas of the house provide incomparable opportunities to unwind and relax. The Kandy House is ideally located for guests to enjoy activities such as visiting the Ceylon Tea Museum, The Temple of The Sacred Tooth Relic and The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to name a few.
Watch a renowned dance and drumming show originally performed for Kandyan kings. Visit the studio of a celebrated batik artist.
Traverse the lush hills outside of Kandy and ascend the steeper Knuckles Mountain range for incredible panoramic views.
Hike the rock fortress of Sigiriya, built by King Kasyapa in 495 AD. Sigiriya has been declared the 8th Wonder of the World by UNESCO.
Walk through the local village and lush paddy fields and meet with the chief monk in the local temple for a chat.
Organise a round of golf at the Victoria Golf Course, twelve miles from Kandy, with the Knuckles Mountain Range as the dramatic backdrop.

We had an amazing holiday in Sri Lanka. All the hotels, transfers, trips and experiences arranged by True Travel were perfect and all the arrangements went seamlessly according to plan. Our guide and driver, Thusita, was a really nice man and so knowledgeable, going out of his way to make sure that we experienced many of the Sri Lankan foods and traditions as possible. I would recommend True Travel to anyone especially if you have not visited the country before.
