Kibale National Park is located in western Uganda and is most well-known for its chimpanzee population. The area is characterised by a diverse mix of landscapes and contains the last significant expanse of pre-montane forest in East Africa.Kibale is considered as one of the best places in Africa to trek chimpanzees, however it is also home to a variety of other primates and bird species. In fact, there are thirteen primate species to be spotted in Kibale Forest, so it is no surprise the area is considered as the primate capital of the world. There is a population of around 400 chimpanzees, two troops of which are habituated to humans. Those with a particularly keen interest in chimpanzees have the opportunity to enjoy a habituation trek, where you can observe their day to day habits and activities.Aside from the chimpanzees, the area is incredibly scenic and encompasses a variety of landscapes including tea plantations, volcanic crater lakes and tropical forests. Many enjoy a walk around the Bigodi Swamp in which 8 different species of primates and 200 species of birds can be spotted.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is not as well known as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, as Bwindi is home to almost half of the world’s population of Mountain Gorillas. However, this is a very special national park for those who know about it.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is understandably Uganda’s most popular safari destination. The park’s diverse ecosystems, which include sprawling savanna, humid forests, sparkling lakes and fertile wetlands, make it the ideal habitat for classic big game, ten primate species including chimpanzees and over 600 species of birds.
Home to almost half of the world’s surviving mountain gorillas, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is, for many visitors to Uganda, the main event. In our opinion, tracking these extraordinary animals in their natural environment is without doubt one of the most memorable travel experiences anyone can have.
