Ndali Lodge
Kibale Forest, Uganda
Why we love it
Set high on a mountain ridge, this collection of eight spacious, airy cottages looks over the idyllic Lake Nyinambuga whilst being surrounded in lush green gardens. The Rwenzori mountains act as a dramatic backdrop to this lodge which instils a feeling of being at the end of the earth. Spend your days taking guided walks by the knowledgeable guides Steven and Sam or hike around the Lake Nyinambuga. The lodge is located just a 40 minute drive from Kibale forest, an ideal spot for Chimpanzee trekking.
Ndali was built by Cpt. Mark Price and opened in 1996. Since then it has been taken over by his son Aubrey and his wife Clare. Their hosting is unrivalled and the communal home-
cooked dinners spent sharing their knowledge of the area help you feel particularly comfortable and at home.
Each of the cottages are equipped with a private terrace and an en-suite bathroom with permanent hot water. All the power at the lodge is solar, the water is pumped from the lake using a pump that utilizes gravity and the water is heated using a recyclable wood-source planted on the estate. After a long day of hiking, chill out by the pool, take a few minutes to yourself in the sauna or treat yourself to a relaxing massage in your room.
Visit the largest concentration of chimpanzees in Africa, other playful primates, tropical birds and colourful butterflies at Kibale National Park.
Discover this community based conservation project for a chance to spot some unique and rare birds such as the white-winged warbler and the papyrus gonolek.
Queen Elizabeth National Park and the World Heritage listed Rwenzori Mountains are only a short distance away from Ndali Lodge, where you can spot bigger game.
Hike to the nearby waterfall with a local guide, where you can go past crater rims before refreshing yourself in the cool fresh water of the cascade.
Walk around the 1,000 acre farm, as well as having a tour around the Vanilla Plant where you can explore the plantation, filled with the sweet smelling bean pods and their colourful yellow flowers.
Paddle on the lake below the lodge for a chance to spot some beautiful Kingfisher species, soak up the sun or simply enjoy a quick and refreshing dip.

It was absolutely magical. As soon as we turned the corner and saw the first gorilla, I started to cry because I was so happy. They were also fantastic lodge recommendations from the True Travel team! Bwindi Lodge was hands down my favourite, amd we also loved getting out of the car and hiking to get there. As you’ll see, my dream of being close to the gorillas really came true. We had such a wonderful time, and thank you for your help making it come to life.
