Sarara Tree Camp is situated within the vast lands of the Namunyak Wildlife Conservation Trust of the Samuru Reserve, spanning approximately 850,000 acres that gracefully embrace the southern region of the renowned Mathews Mountain Range in northern Kenya. This remarkable area serves as the ancestral homeland of the resilient Samburu tribespeople, a semi-nomadic pastoralist community that has long coexisted harmoniously with the abundant wildlife that shares their lands. The conservation efforts undertaken by the Namunyak Trust have yielded remarkable success. In the aftermath of the devastating ivory poaching crisis during the 1970s and early 1980s, the Mathews Ranges were left bereft of any recorded elephants by 1985. Today, thanks to dedicated conservation endeavours, the southern Mathews Range area is home to several thousand elephants, thriving and peacefully breeding alongside a diverse array of wildlife species such as buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, African wild dog, greater and lesser kudu, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, impala, and dik-dik.
At Sarara, guests can indulge in the luxury of six spacious tents strategically positioned to offer breathtaking vistas of the majestic Mathews Range mountains and an animal watering hole. These tents boast high ceilings, electric lighting, and round-the-clock hot and cold running water. The camp features a captivating infinity pool perched on a cliff, providing a panoramic view of the animals below. Solar energy, harnessed through multiple sets of solar panels, powers the entire camp. While Sarara specialises in immersive walking safaris, including camel-assisted walks, guests also have the option of engaging in exhilarating game drives. Moreover, the camp offers the unique opportunity to arrange walks with fly camping under the stars. One not-to-be-missed experience is witnessing the local cattlemen at the singing wells, a truly remarkable spectacle.
