Visit Rwanda to discover the land of the mountain gorilla; a country that promises the sighting of native primates surrounded by breathtaking mountainous scenery. As a country, it has overcome a genocide and is currently shifting towards eco-tourism, facing a rise in sustainable lodging, wildlife viewing and intensive animal conservation. Rwanda offers luxury accommodation, quality guiding, vast volcanic conservation areas and one of the few remaining places in the world to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

Rwanda offers some times of year to visit that can be incredibly rewarding, but can also throw up some times of year to either avoid, or – at the very least – be very well aware of what the conditions will be like. Importantly, the success rate of Gorilla trekking is nearly 100%, so if Gorilla trekking is the key objective of your trip, you are essentially guaranteed to experience getting up close and personal with this iconic species regardless of when you travel. The wet season months of March through to May, as well as November, are not exactly for the faint of heart as conditions under foot can be fairly treacherous.

Whether you are looking to climb into the canopies of the Jungle in the Nyungwe Forest National Park or get down with the Gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda has you covered for all your primate encounters.
To get the most from your trip to Rwanda, we advise you speak to our Africa specialists Matt and Felix for more information.
With around 250 gorillas split across roughly 10 families, these magical animals are carefully protected and only about 50 people a day are allowed to trek to see them. Those lucky enough to spend time with these awe-inspiring animals have described the experience as intensely emotional and we could not agree more.
We recommend purchasing two permits to visit these easily-accessible creatures. The first trek will give you the opportunity to take enough pictures to capture these majestic creatures. The second trek allows you to just sit quietly and observe these hugely powerful animals in their natural habitat.
While you explore Volcanoes National Park you will be able to enjoy spectacular birdlife (there are over 350 bird species) as well as visiting Dian Fossey’s grave, where you can learn all about her fascinating work and the narrative behind the memorable film, Gorillas in the Mist.
It’s believed to be one of Africa’s oldest forests, staying green even through the Ice Age, which explains its diversity. Home to habituated chimpanzees and 12 other primates species (including a 400-strong troop of habituated Ruwenzori Black & White Colobus), it’s also a birder’s paradise with over 300 species, including 16 endemics, and is home to 75 different species of mammal.
This majestic rainforest is filled with nature and wildlife experiences for you to emerge yourself in. Hiking or even biking the beautiful terrain, tracking the famous chimpanzees, experiencing the canopy walk, witnessing beautiful birds, relaxing by waterfalls are just a glimpse of activities that Nyungwe offers.
