Hidden between the primary rainforest of the Osa Peninsula and the sparkling water of the Pacific Ocean, Lapa Rios has always been one of our favourite Costa Rican luxury retreats. With organic natural linens, locally sourced food and solar-powered water supplies, Lapa Rios takes its eco-credentials seriously. Days can be spent borrowing the eyes of your guide to spot well-camouflaged sloths, armadillos and tiny poison-dart frogs (a lucky few have seen jaguar). Discover starfish basking in marine rock pools, and during the migration season, humpback whales wave their tails out to see. Each of the 17 open-air bungalows is perched on a mountain ridge and surrounded by jungle. The views of the Pacific below are spectacular, and with a private deck to drink it all in, many guests find it hard to leave the privacy of their hilltop home. We love the Lapa Villas with their large decks and private plunge pool to soak up the beauty of this stunning location.
