  • Learn how to create local recipes with private cooking classes
  • Enjoy a chocolate-making workshop in the mountains of the coffee region
  • Explore the Caribbean coast from Cartagena

Day 1 - 3: Medellin

Learn about the social and cultural transformation this city has undergone

Stay in the trendy El Poblado neighbourhood at the hotel of celebrated chef, Juan Manuel Barrientos

We love Elcielo hotel’s sleek contemporary design, cool rooftop pool and bar and central location in the heart of El Poblado, our favourite district in Medellin. We will ensure you have a table reservation at the hotel for one of the nights you are in town and recommendations for other excellent options, all within walking distance of the hotel.

During your stay in Medellin, we have included time with a private guide to walk through the streets of the infamous Comuna 13 district and learn how this city has transformed into one of the most creative and innovative centres in South America. Meet friendly locals with incredible stories, including street artists, street dancers and musicians.

On your second day, alongside a charismatic chef, you will have a fun day exploring markets, tasting exotic fruits and buying ingredients for a private cooking class. Learn how to make empanadas, arepas, plantain chips and other delicious dishes. After a scrumptious lunch, take a bike ride through a local park and take the gondola back to the city with beautiful views of Medellin.

Day 4 - 6: The Coffee Region, Colombia

Stay at a working cacao farm and learn how to make chocolate

Walk along mountain trails in the Cocora Valley

A short flight from Medellin to Armenia brings you into the Andes Mountains, where the best of Colombia’s coffee is grown.

Stay at Hacienda Bambusa, a family farm with breathtaking views of the river valley and Central Andes Mountains. With just eight en-suite bedrooms with a balcony or terrace overlooking the gardens, this is a peaceful retreat from which to explore the Colombian Highlands. We will include a trip with a guide to the Valle del Cocora with its towering 60-metre palm trees, and a scenic picnic lunch followed by a visit to a charming Andean town nearby.

Excursions include horseback riding or trekking, cooking classes, coffee tasting, bird watching and mountain biking.

Day 7 - 11: Cartagena

Take a treasure hunt around the city’s historic fort

A private graffiti class with a local street artist

A one-hour flight from Pereira airport brings you to Cartagena, Colombia’s Caribbean jewel.

Stay at the Sofitel Santa Clara in the Old City. This is a great option for families as the hotel has a large swimming pool in the central courtyard and a lively bar overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Although part of a larger chain, the hotel retains its heritage as a former 17th Century monastery.

Ensuring you have plenty of time to relax and explore at your leisure, we will also arrange some unique experiences to get under the skin of Cartagena. We can design a morning treasure hunt for you with costumes prepared so you can dress up as a pirate (optional!) and take a treasure hunt around the old fort learning its history as you go. Later spend the afternoon surfing or kayaking along one of Cartagena’s bays. Finally, join our young local guide in the Getsemani neighbourhood for a graffiti workshop with a street artist.

One experience not to be missed is island hopping in the Rosario Islands archipelago. We have included a private speedboat or yacht to take you to clear, calm bays where you can snorkel along coralline reefs. There is also the option to add paddle boards and kayaks to the boat or scuba diving.
