Solitaire Lodge
Rotorua, New Zealand
Why we love it
Solitaire Lodge was one of the first of its kind in New Zealand, offering Luxury accommodation from a lakeside location. Throughout the Lodge you have spectacular views of Lake Tarawera and Mt. Tarawera Volcano though large windows, giving you a sense of calm and the ability to unwind after the day’s activities. You can arrange to have a massage in your
suite and enjoy the onsite restaurant serving food and wine from the surrounding area.
Take a boat out to the natural hot springs of Lake Tarawera to enjoy the health benefits of the thermal water in the morning sun.
Sail into the lake to waters abundant in rainbow trout for your chance to hook a fresh trout that can be cooked for your dinner.
See the erupting volcanoes of Whakaari Island from the sky before landing to explore the crater floor, hearing Maori legends along the way.
Cycle along the geothermal cycle trails of the forests, parallel to a hot stream, and take a quick dip with views of Rainbow Mountain.
Be driven by your Kaitiaki guide to the foot of Mount Tarawera, where you will begin your hike to the summit interspersed with Maori legends.
Glide alongside Otumutu Lagoon's black swans on either a kayak or motorised dinghy, for deepwater swimming in secluded bays.

Lesley & Hary
We had such a wonderful holiday. Katie put together a brilliant itinerary, which we tweaked a little in places, and the accommodation she chose was first class. She gave us great recommendations of activities and the whole trip went smoothly. Timings worked well between destinations because she had good knowledge of New Zealand, and the driving distances, car changes, ferry crossings, meeting points for activities were all easily achievable.
