Hapuku Lodge
Kaikoura, Abel Tasman & Marlborough Region, New Zealand
Why we love it
Hapuku Lodge is set outside the seaside town of Kaikoura, in one of South Island’s most spectacular settings.
Hapuku is a contemporary country lodge with suites and rooms in the main lodge building, a freestanding two bedroom suite in the grounds with its own kitchen and a collection of unique wood clad treehouse.
Each Tree House is architecturally stunning, perched high in a native Manuka grove with arresting panoramic views of the dramatic surroundings of the mountains, ocean and the lodge’s own deer park. The lodge itself serves delicious contemporary seasonal cuisine, locally sourced produce and a fantastic selection of fine New Zealand wine.
Take advantage of the lodge's mountain bikes and cycle the local Hapuku trails up and down the coast to discover the magic of Kaikoura.
Join in with the region's olive picking season in May to June, and watch professionals at the lodge turn your produce into fresh olive oil.
Catch a wave at the world-famous Mangamaunu surf break, with the chance to even spot a seal in the water with you.
Enjoy a delicious hand-prepared picnic to enjoy on either a hike or cycle through Kaikoura's beautiful bush scenery.
Take a scenic flight over Kaikoura's coastal waters, home to a year-round sperm whale population, to admire these beautiful marine mammals.
Make the most of exclusive-use landing pads to see the incredible geological formations from the 2016 earthquake, with the chance to see the fault plane.
Swim with wild dolphins in their natural habitat, taking a boat out to sea and jumping in with only a wetsuit and snorkels between you and them.

Lesley & Hary
We had such a wonderful holiday. Katie put together a brilliant itinerary, which we tweaked a little in places, and the accommodation she chose was first class. She gave us great recommendations of activities and the whole trip went smoothly. Timings worked well between destinations because she had good knowledge of New Zealand, and the driving distances, car changes, ferry crossings, meeting points for activities were all easily achievable.
