The Cultural Triangle’s most southerly point is the City of Kandy, Sri Lanka’s second largest. Situated around a vast lake, surrounded by the peaks of Sri Lanka’s hill country and looped by Sri Lanka’s largest river, the Mahaweli. Kandy’s pleasant temperate climate, its scenic location and it’s rich history have made it a favourite destination among our guests.Aside from its stunning setting, one of Kandy’s main draws is the Temple of the Sacred Tooth- known locally as Sri Dalada Maligawa – the most sacred temple in the country. During the evening, crowds of people visit the temple to make offerings of flowers. During the month of August, Kandy plays host to the Kandy Perahera, a colourful procession where a sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha is paraded on elephant along the streets of Kandy.
