Matemwe Beach House
Matemwe, Zanzibar
Why we love it
Matemwe Beach House is the perfect holiday home for a family or small group wanting a private slice of this beautiful coast line. Just a stones throw from the beach and Indian Ocean, enveloped in the Swahili culture, this self-contained house offers the chance for guests to experience this stretch of coast on their own terms. The sea breeze, rustling palm trees and gentle lapping of waves are a constant reminder of the stunning setting that this house is situated in.
The three bedroom traditional beach house sits just five paces from the beach and is accessed by a private path and gate. A private pool and deck offers great views over the beach and the sea. Two en-suite rooms are located on the ground floor, with a third on a mezzanine which is ideal for children. Guests are looked after by their own team of staff led by a Matemwe chef and butler who will ensure the food and experience at the Beach House is individually tailored to each family or group.
There is full butler service, so guests can remain tucked away in their house in complete isolation, or are able to wander over
to the main lodge for meals, drinks or other activities such as diving and snorkelling. Children over the age of 6 are welcome at Matemwe Lodge, unless the lodge is booked exclusively. Matemwe Beach House is always booked exclusively so children of all ages are welcome.
All meals at Matemwe Beach House are served at a time of your choice. There is no set menu, so you can simply decide each morning what your individual menu will be for the day. The chef will make suggestions depending on special deliveries and the catch of the day. The exceptional cuisine is a fusion of traditional Zanzibari and international flavours. Seafood is a speciality, and fresh fish is prepared on a daily basis.
The private bar in Matemwe Beach House is stocked with a variety of cool drinks, wines, beers and spirits; and should you require any drink not stocked in the bar, your butler will do his best to oblige.

True Travel planned our honeymoon to Uganda, Rwanda and Zanzibar. The insight of the team at TLT helped us choose locations and lodges which otherwise we’d never have known about – they also saved us over £1,000 by recommending cost saving flights and other logistics. I have already recommended their service to friends and will continue to do so.
