The Victoria Falls is where the wide Zambezi River simply drops some 100 meters into a narrow gorge. The Falls lie across the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, and Livingstone is the town on the Zambian side. Called “Mosi-oa-Tunya”, (the smoke that thunders) in the local language, the Falls is one of the seven wonders of the world and when you first come to Zambia, Livingstone is a must visit destination. Set on a hill bordering the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and overlooking unspoilt bush, Stanley Safari Lodge is only three kilometres from Victoria Falls. The views are splendid: the spray of the Falls in the distance, the mighty Zambezi Riverrand on top of that yet another beautiful African sunset. Each of the 10 rooms is individually designed and decorated with local materials. Accommodation ranges from double rooms, to the honeymoon suite – with both its own fireplace and plunge pool. All cottages have their own private garden and dining area, while the suites have private plunge pools. Six rooms are open sided and the remainder are closed. The main house provides the setting for French style cuisine; alternatively dining under the stars on the lawn or in the privacy of own room is possible.
Sindabezi Island is the discerning travellers best kept secret.
Royal Livingstone Hotel is named after the legendary explorer who named Zambia’s iconic waterfall in honour of his queen.
Chongwe River Camp is nestled under a complete canopy of huge winter thorn acacias, in an area where elephants are more numerous than people – there are no fences and the animals have complete right of way.
Royal Chundu, which means ‘a meeting place of the chief’, is a haven of quiet solitude and untouched beauty where guests and Africa live in harmony for a special moment in time.
