Day 1
San Jose
San Jose is often seen as a town to serve as an entry and exit point on the way to Costa Rica’s jungles and beaches. However, there is an emerging culinary scene worth investigating if you are a food-lover.
We like to recommend staying the night in the hills on the outskirts of town. Xandari Lodge offers sweeping views of the central valley. The lodge is part of a 40-acre plantation with coffee-tasting tours on offer and an excellent spa.
Days 2-4
Arenal Volcano National Park
Arenal is referred to as the adventure capital of Costa Rica for good reason. Experience zip lining across the top of the rainforest canopy, or rappelling down the side of Arenal’s waterfalls. Whether white-water rafting on the Sarapiqui River or hiking the Arenal Volcano, we promise you the jungle adventure of a lifetime.
The Arenal region of Costa Rica is a thrill-seekers paradise. There are endless options for exploring the rainforest in ways that appeal to your level of adventure. White water rafting on the Sarapiqui River is a great way to see wildlife that comes to the river banks. The lodge can arrange exciting rock climbing expeditions, including rappelling beneath waterfalls or try hiking on the Arenal volcano with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys.
Nayara Tented Camp is the perfect luxury retreat with views of volcanic peaks and lush jungle. We love this luxury retreat that combines relaxation with high-octane adventure. Each spacious tent has stunning views from the private deck and plunge pool. The open-air spa uses the natural rainforest setting to enhance the restorative power of nature.
Days 5-9
Guanacaste Peninsula
Kasiiya Papagayo is one of our favourite eco-luxury retreats in Central America. The service is warm and efficient; the food is fresh and thoughtfully prepared, and the location is breathtaking. We love the beautiful tented rooms, each with far-reaching ocean views from a private deck.
Enjoy nature hikes and treks across the 123-acre peninsula. Treks are tailored to the abilities of each guest alongside one of the three resident guides. What is fantastic about this beach property is that there is so much to do if you want to be active, but it is also a place that will instil peace and tranquillity for times when guests want to be still.
Perched on the edge of Punta Gorda, one of the best snorkelling locations in Costa Rica, this is an excellent location for exploring marine life. The nearby reef is home to an array of species, including spotted eagle rays, parrot fish and giant damsel fish. The water in one of Kasiiya’s bays is calm and excellent for paddleboarding or kayaking.
