Welcome to Peru! Today you will arrive in the country’s capital city of Lima, famous for its truly spectacular culinary scene. Your hotel is located in Miraflores, an upmarket neighbourhood with beautiful old mansions, excellent restaurants and boutiques within walking distance. Depending on your flight arrival time, there is the option to organise a city tour, culinary market tour, cycling tour in the bohemian neighbourhood of Barranco or many other options! Otherwise, you can simply relax in the garden of your hotel and we can book you into one of Lima’s best restaurants for the evening.
Today you will fly to Iquitos in the northern Amazon rainforest of Peru to board the Aqua Nera cruise ship. You’ll be picked up at the airport and driven into Iquitos town centre for lunch at a local restaurant. From there, you’ll drive about 1.5hrs to the port of Nauta, where you will then board a small zodiac boat to be taken to the majestic Aqua Nera vessel.
The Aqua Nera is a beautiful ship, built just in 2020 featuring an enormous indoor lounge, outside sundeck with a jacuzzi, an onboard gym overlooking the Amazon river, a games room and cinema room as well as an excellent restaurant. You’ll spend your two full days on board exploring the Amazon river and rainforest learning about all of the plants, flowers, wildlife and birdlife that this region has to offer. You can expect to see beautiful tropical birds, caiman, pink and grey dolphins, monkeys and even sloths, if you’re lucky!
Today you will fly via Lima to Cusco, the ancient city of the Inca civilisation. Cusco is a vibrant and lively city, and from your hotel you’ll be less than a 5 minute walk from the bustling main ‘plaza’. This afternoon, we recommend you to rest at your hotel (it has a beautiful pool, spa and gardens) to get used to the altitude.
This morning, you will be transferred to the Sacred Valley and along the way, visit the archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman. Continue for lunch at a local Hacienda, where we invite you to learn how the Incas developed such a unique corn variety, and how their ancestral techniques have survived along with the modern production of corn. Afterwards you will enjoy a delicious 4-course set menu lunch based on both indigenous ingredients and cuisines brought in during Colonial times.
You’ll be able to enjoy a fun biking tour on an extremely versatile route visiting both the Moras salt mines and the Moray archaeological complex, offering excitement, culture, spectacular scenery and a great picnic lunch. Other options involve kayaking on the Huaypo lagoon, hiking around the Maras salt flats and Moray archaeological site or doing similar activities but vehicle based, if you’re feeling the altitude or simply aren’t so active.
In the early evening, you’ll get a train from the Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes, the town of Machu Picchu, for a night at the Sumaq hotel before you embark on your exploration of Machu Picchu the next day.
Today we will wake up early and board a bus, which will take us up to Machu Picchu where we begin a complete guided tour of the Inca citadel that will take approximately two hours. Then, if you would like, you can choose to climb the Huayna Picchu or the Machu Picchu Mountain, where one can experience spectacular views of all of Machu Picchu, the valleys and mountains that surround it.
After the visit, head back to Aguas Calientes to enjoy some free time at leisure.
In the afternoon, take the Vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, transfer back to your hotel in Cusco for your final night.
Morning at leisure to rest and wander around the city after you check out from your hotel. Depending on the time of your flight, we can organise a guided walking tour of Cusco, or other half-day activities such as e-biking or visits to nearby ruins.
You will be met and transferred to the Cusco airport in time to board your domestic flight to Lima to either connect with your flight home or onward travel plans.
Upon arrival in Lima, you are met by our representative who will help you with the check in procedure of your international flight.
