Tucked into the northwest corner of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, Blancaneaux is a 20-bedroom retreat immersed in nature. The lodge is located on the banks of Privassion Creek with calm pools for river swimming beneath age-old tropical pines. Built by Film Director, Francis Ford Coppola in the early 1980s, Blancaneaux originated as a private family home. It opened as a hotel ten years later, but the welcoming atmosphere of a home-from-home family retreat is still just as strong. A few miles from Blancaneaux, you will discover waterfalls cascading over steep limestone cliffs, valleys carpeted with dense jungle and a network of 14 protected reserves. Our favourite Riverview Cabanas feature a large private deck where you can rest and let the sounds of nature restore and soothe mind, body and soul. Rooms are elegant and furnished with traditional textiles from Belize and neighbouring Guatemala. This is one of the country’s most sought-after hideaways and booking early is essential. Don’t miss a visit to Caracol, the ancient Mayan site still relatively undiscovered.
