You only need a weekend in Stockholm to see the Swedes infamously relaxed approach to life. Built across 14 islands and a short hop from an enormous archipelago, you are only ever a stones throw away from the water. Quiet coffees, enormous cinnamon buns, sailing trips, Abba and meatballs will easily fill a short memorable break.

In true Scandinavian fashion, Stockholm is a city that is effortlessly cool. It blends culture and tradition with forward thinking design that you can see in everything from the cities train and subway stations to their cafes and restaurants.

The starting point for many is the old town – Gamla Stan – that dates back to the 13th century. It is a maze of narrow cobbled streets lined with quaint gabled houses and is home to the Royal Palace and Royal Chapel.Being by the water gives Stockholm a wonderfully relaxed feel with lots of opportunities for strolling and cycling. It is also a very green city, filled with parks and open spaces.

We went looking for the Northern Lights and got so much more – snowmobiling, husky sledding, and we were hosted by lovely people. It was a pleasure planning our trip with Molly; she understood exactly what we were looking for from our snowy adventure!
