The limestone caves of Pak Ou seem unassuming at first glance but as you draw closer to the mighty caverns, their treasures begin to reveal themselves. Thousands of Buddhas cover every surface of the rock face, making Pak Ou one of Laos’ most holy sites. Looking out over the Mekong River, the gold-lacquered and wooden Buddhas take many forms, including meditation, reclining, peace and teaching, and wandering through the caves offers a fascinating insight into centuries of religious heritage.
