Why we love it
Camelthorn Lodge is a new flag ship lodge which is nestled in a patch of pristine woodland just west of Ngamo on the edge of the South Eastern corner of Hwange National Park. The lodge is unique in it’s style and design and is named after it’s centre piece – a huge, ancient Camelthorn tree. Camelthorn provides a spectacular wilderness experience.
Camelthorn’s 8 unique villas quietly nestle in one of Hwange’s last untouched corners of real woodland wilderness.
Deep in amongst the camel thorn and ebony trees this new lodge offers huge glass fronted views, overlooking a large permanent waterhole and bird feeders that attracts some of
the smaller and less destructive woodland creatures; bush buck, duiker, mongoose and squirrel, not to mention a plethora of colourful bird life.
Each individual luxurious villa is topped off with a private outdoor maisonette where you can soak up the suns rays, or even sleep out under the stars.
Hwange’s is famous for its elephant, and there is a private underground blind where guests are able to sit and relax whilst observing the drinking wildlife up close.
Trot past wildebeest whilst you explore the Hwange National Park, or visit a rural village community on horseback before settling in to a freshly prepared lunch.
Take this single carriage tram across the park and enjoy a drink and a bite to eat whilst waiting for the lions to clear off the tracks.
Keep your eyes peeled for sable, lion prides, cheetah and other Hwange creatures on your morning or late afternoon game drive followed by a refreshing sundowner.
Imvelo's massage therapists are all from the surrounding community area and are trained to provide you with ultimate relaxation with treatments like the Ikhanda Massage.
Experience a whole new world on a night drive where you will not only be able to spot some elusive nocturnal creatures or hear a nighttime hunt, but see a plethora of constellations.
Camouflaged as a termite heap and buried under an ancient Motswiri tree, Camelthorn's hideout provides the perfect opportunity to photograph animals up close as they cool off in the watering hole.
Discover the neighbouring villages of Tsholotsho where you can enjoy a class interaction, tour the school or simply learn about the rural way of life.

We were bundled into a vehicle and dashed off to see a leopard within the first 30 minutes of arriving; it was an AWESOME start. Our guide completely made the entire experience. He was an exceptional birder and his best party trick was to point out the bird and then tell us the exact page we could find it in our book. We combined Zimbabwe with Mozambique, and our beach hotel felt like a complete hidden gem. The sand is like ‘moon dust’ and the hospitality and food were fantastic.
