Day 1-2
ENTEBBE, Uganda
Spend the night at the ‘Karibu,’ meaning welcome in the Swahili language, to prepare for your Gorilla Trekking adventures.
Enjoy an overnight stop at the Karibu boutique hotel in the heart of Entebbe to recover from your flight. Known as the gateway to Uganda, this welcoming former presidential home is perfect to prepare for your Uganda adventures in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Located on a leafy hillside, this hotel extends into the tropical gardens so guests can cool off in the beautiful pool surrounded by avocado and mango trees and a natural rock waterfall. See if you can spot the resident palm nut vulture before enjoying a Mediterranean inspired feast, setting off the next morning to the Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge.
Day 2-4
BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK, Uganda
Begin your Gorilla trekking adventures at the Clouds Mountain Lodge set high in Uganda’s misty mountains.
Head to Uganda’s highest lodge set on a forested ridge, only walking distance to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest’s entrance. Guests can enjoy panoramic views of the Virunga Volcanoes of Rwanda as well as the Nyiragongo Volcano in the Congo – all from the Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge’s balcony. Rise early to walk to the trailhead to begin your tracking adventure to find the mountain gorillas through the mist-covered mountain slopes. Once found, visitors can get within six meters of the mighty gorilla and spend time with them, before trekking back through ancient rainforest to spot some of the spectacular birdlife that calls the forest home. In the evenings, relax after your hike with a massage treatment or simply unwind by your private cottage’s crackling fire.
Day 4-6
BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK, Uganda
Spend two nights at the Buhoma Lodge tracking mountain gorillas through the misty mountains.
Be one of the very few people who traverse the Bwindi Forest by trekking from one side to another to access Buhoma Lodge. On this route, you will experience pristine wilderness, untouched since the last Ice Age over 30,000 years ago. Guests can choose between a ‘short’ or ‘longer’ route before arriving at the Lodge overlooking the Forest. From this lodge you can track another gorilla family for a totally different experience, hiking along trails through dense forest. You can also spend the day hiking through the forest to a beautiful waterfall or meeting the ‘Keepers of the Forest’ – the enchanting Batwa hunter-gatherer tribe – to learn about their extraordinary lives and their relationship with the forest.
Day 6-7
ENTEBBE, Uganda
Head back to the Karibu for an overnight stay to rejuvenate yourself before flying home from Uganda.
Welcome back to Entebbe’s authentic guesthouse, the Karibu. Enjoy an overnight stay relaxing after your rustic adventures trekking through the misty mountains of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Be surrounded by tropical birds and groves of fruit trees at this oasis when relaxing in the garden pool. Watch a glorious African sunset over Lake Victoria and enjoy a Mediterranean feast on the veranda before your flight home the next morning.

It was absolutely magical. As soon as we turned the corner and saw the first gorilla, I started to cry because I was so happy. They were also fantastic lodge recommendations from the True Travel team! Bwindi Lodge was hands down my favourite, amd we also loved getting out of the car and hiking to get there. As you’ll see, my dream of being close to the gorillas really came true. We had such a wonderful time, and thank you for your help making it come to life.
