Most Memorable
The Ruaha National Park is one of the most remote areas of Africa for wildlife viewing, but it is also home to some of the largest herds of elephants left in Africa. I took my wife back in 2017 with the hope of finding one of these herds and within 20 minutes of our first exploration, we came across the largest I had ever seen; 182 strong, located in the bend of a dry river bed, basking in the magical evening light as the sunset. It was the dry season and they were digging boreholes with their trunks, deep into the sandy river bed, in search of water. We were the only people for 10 miles. We turned off the engine and radio, and we sat in total peace for 2 hours, listening to the birdsong of carmine bee-eaters above us, and watching these magnificent creatures go about their evening ritual in front of us.Â
My Experience
I have been lucky enough to travel to over 60 countries around the world, visiting many of the best hotels and making life-long friends along the way. I see the job that we do at True Travel as a simple one – to understand the specific requirements of each client, and to use our first-hand knowledge and experience to create extraordinary memories. It is only simply because of the level of expertise our team possesses, and constantly expands. Whether you are exploring hidden vineyards in the Tuscan hills, floating through the treetops over the Great Wildebeest Migration in a hot air balloon or spending time learning from the Sámi people in Swedish Lapland, the joy of travel leaves you wanting more. And there is so much more to do and see – we have the pleasure of taking you there.
My Top Recommendations For…
Honeymooners: for me it just has to be an African safari. There is nowhere more romantic, with such extraordinary diversity of culture, landscape, people and experience.Â
Group Celebration: there is one place and one place only – if the budget permits – and that is Deplar Farm, right up in the north of Iceland. Styled on a country house, Deplar has it all, from heli-skiing on untouched mountains in the winter, to salmon fishing, hiking and even Arctic Ocean surfing in the summer. It has been built to the highest standards I have seen anywhere in the world. Take it exclusively – you will not be disappointed.Â
Adventure Trip: For a couple, a family or a group looking for a different kind of adventure, I couldn’t recommend Chile highly enough. From the wide boulevards of Santiago to the deserts of the Atacama, with exceptional wine country in between, there is a mass to explore and to learn. And that is before you even get to Patagonia, at the southern tip of the world – a place you could spend two weeks exploring without stopping.  Â
Trekking with majestic mountain gorillas
Hiking across the Atacama Desert
Horse riding in beautiful Patagonia
Catching tiger fish on the Zambezi River
Strolling along the white sands of Mnemba Island
Will Greenwood & Family
The team at True Travel had a simple brief: to send us on the world’s best family safari. As soon as our boat headed down the Zambezi, it all kicked off; we passed a herd of hippos, a lazy crocodile and a giraffe drinking nonchalantly on the riverbank. A magical experience from beginning to end. Nothing was too much trouble and if we had any issue that needed resolving, there was always someone on hand to do this. Before and after, they were off the charts – simply an awesome team.
Most Recent Trip
My latest exploration took my wife and I on a road trip around Iceland in April. I don’t think anything can prepare you for the wonders of Iceland. It is like climbing into a geography lesson. Everywhere you go, everything you see, touch and smell, links you back to the volcanic foundations of this island. From witnessing exploding lava, to crossing glaciers by super jeep, with black sand beaches and spectacular waterfalls around every corner, Iceland was a non-stop adventure playground! My two stand out experiences – amongst many to choose from. Firstly, as a keen diver, being able to dive between two tectonic plates in the clearest water in the world (some 100m visibility) was a dream come true and highly recommended. And secondly, spending time at Deplar Farm. Located in the far north of the island, totally isolated and more remote than I have been for some time. Yet the Deplar team have created, out of an old sheep farm, one of the most spectacular hotels anywhere I have stayed worldwide. If you go to Iceland, you must include some time here.
