Known as the “Pearl of the South”, Cienfuegos is one of the largest holiday destinations in Cuba where visitors can practise a variety of nautical sports, climb the stunning mountains of the Sierra del Escambray or admire the legacy of Spanish and French settlers through its architecture and traditions.
Located next to one of the best bays in the world, this urban centre is considered an architectural jewel having a huge amount of French influence. A city of remarkable patrimonial constructions, it exhibits a very well preserved historical area, in which buildings of diverse styles harmoniously stand out making it a must-see for visitors.
Heroically haunted by a past of colonial traditions, flying bullets and derailed trains, the so-called “City of Che” provides a fascinating walk through the history of the Cuban Revolution and the life of one of its most respected leaders, Ernesto Guevara. It is Santa Clara, where you can find the mausoleum of the hero whose legacy is to be found in every street, house or neighbouring hill of this urban centre.
As with Cienfuegos and Trinidad, the region of Villa Clara is also embraced by the Escambray Mountains offering visitors a wide array of eco-excursions. Finally, The Hanabanilla Lake, a beautiful resort also offers all sorts of opportunities for boating, taking ferry trips, climbing, pony trekking and sailing.
