Example Itinerary

Day 1-3

EDINBURGH, Scotland

  • Let a local guide take you around Edinburgh Castle
  • Meet a tartan expert to find out your family’s stripes

A melting pot of all things quintessentially Scottish, we challenge you not to spot a kilt or hear the bagpipes within twenty-four hours of arriving in the city.

Begin in Edinburgh at the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh’s most iconic hotel, where all the highlights are in walking distance. Spend your days exploring the old and new, tasting weird and wonderful Scottish delicacies and visiting some of Edinburgh’s famous sights. To get to the true heart of Scottish culture, we can arrange a driver-guide for a day of whisky tasting on the city’s outskirts. Alternatively, head out with a walking guide to delve into the myths and legends of this fascinating city. We’ll always check if there is an option to witness some Highland Games – a great chance to meet the locals and spot a variety of kilts.

Day  3-8

ISLAY, Scotland

  • Explore coastal Scotland at its best and most authentic
  • Live like a local from breakfast to supper, sampling whisky and the freshest seafood

The southernmost of the Inner Hebrides most famous for whisky but ultimately any outdoor seaside lovers absolute paradise.

From Edinburgh, heli transfer from the capital to the ‘whisky coast’, where you’ll spend five nights in an exclusive cottage at the Machrie Hotel. Even for those who are not fans of whisky, Islay promises some of the greatest of Scotland’s outdoor opportunities, with dramatic seascapes, great birdlife, delicious seafood and one of the world’s best golf courses. Out at sea, we can arrange a day of scallop diving with a local fisherman. Back on land, enjoy an island tour or enjoy delicious picnics and barbeques on the beach with a local chef.

The Ashtons

We enjoyed a fabulous family adventure in the Western Isles of Scotland, filled with salmon fishing, whisky tasting and jumping through the dunes. Islay was the perfect escape, and the kids loved exploring the rockpools.
