In 1980, the Rattray family acquired the picturesque 68-acre headland known as “Fairview,” situated between Plettenberg Bay and Nature’s Valley on the Southern Cape coastline. This idyllic spot became the site of Peter and Gillian’s elegant retirement home, complemented by a garden that soon gained recognition. In 2003, David and Nicky took over the property, continuing the family’s legacy. Martin Rattray, the youngest son of Peter and Gillian, lent his creative touch to the estate, designing all the buildings in the classic Cape Dutch architectural style. To the west, Martin crafted a spectacular house with sweeping views of the majestic mountains. Tragically, after Martin’s passing in 2018, the Rattray family resolved to honor his memory by restoring and renovating this stunning dwelling, transforming it into an exclusive eight-room hotel named Fairview House. The name “Fairview House” is fitting as it aptly describes the extraordinary panoramic views it offers, overlooking the Keurbooms indigenous forest and several mountain ranges. The location is truly special, being a mere 10-minute drive from Keurbooms Beach, the beautiful Robberg Peninsula, and the renowned golf courses of Plettenberg Bay. Nature’s Valley, with its captivating beach and enchanting forest trails, is also a short 15-minute journey away. The proximity to Kurland Polo field and various wildlife sanctuaries adds to the allure. For wine enthusiasts, the Plett wineries are conveniently within a 10-minute drive. Fairview House serves as an ideal springboard to explore the countless attractions of this famous coastline, yet it offers a peaceful retreat away from the bustling crowds.
