Why we love it
Tongabezi Lodge is a romantic hideaway on the banks of the Zambezi River just upstream of Victoria Falls. The friendly team welcomes guests to a selection of houses and cottages, each beautifully styled with furniture and embellishments from all over Africa. Guests can dine beside the river or on their private terrace. Privately owned and run, Tongabezi combines an exclusive ambience with the legendary warmth and hospitality of the people of Zambia.
Tongabezi is the ultimate destination for romance if you have a special occasion to celebrate, the entire team will be at your service to ensure the ultimate wedding, honeymoon or anniversary but the real beauty of the Tongabezi experience lies in its ability to set the scene and inspire a little magical romance in everyone no special occasion necessary.
Victoria Falls is one of the worlds natural wonders and among the most spectacular sights in all Africa. The best place to witness this immense mass of water is tiny Livingstone Island, the place where Dr David Livingstone first glimpsed Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke That Thunders).
Tongabezi offers five trips a day to Livingstone Island. A twin-engine boat that carries up to 12 people will take you through the fast-moving channels of the Zambezi, a thrilling journey. Once on the island, you will be given a guided tour, learning about its history from ancient times, when it served as a sacrificial site to the present day and its World Heritage status.
Safely navigate the Zambezi with an experienced guide, to paddle past pods of hippos and sunbathing crocodiles.
Dine under the stars of the floating Sampan and have each course personally canoed out for you to enjoy.
Watch the sunrise and see the waking animals, or enjoy the sun setting on the river with some sundowners and nibbles.
Visit one of the seven Wonders of the World with a trip to the Victoria Falls and witness its colourful rainbows and powerful cascades of water.
Head to the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park for some open vehicle game viewing, to see herds of elephants as well as the two southern white rhinos.
Pick up locally crafted treasures at the local market, a perfect place to pick up small gifts and trinkets for home.
Relax in the cool evening sun on the sandy banks of the Zambezi, with a pop up bar to keep your sundowners flowing as the sun sets.
Go back in time and visit where Livingstone first glimpsed the Victorian Falls, on a thrilling boat trip to the island.

The team at True Travel had a simple brief: to send us on the world’s best family safari. As soon as our boat headed down the Zambezi, it all kicked off; we passed a herd of hippos, a lazy crocodile and a giraffe drinking nonchalantly on the riverbank. A magical experience from beginning to end. Nothing was too much trouble and if we had any issue that needed resolving, there was always someone on hand to do this. Before and after, they were off the charts – simply an awesome team.
