West Falkland/Malvinas is known for its rugged beauty and the undulating Hornby Hills.
The island is home to thousands of cormorant and penguin species including rockhopper, King and Magellanic penguin. White sandy dunes tumble to the crystal clear water of the South Atlantic where elephant seals bask between feeding.

The island’s tiny capital city is a lively hub of activity tucked into a sheltered harbour.
Head out on foot to explore the Falkland Island Museum, Government House built in 1845 and perhaps enjoy a drink in one of the town’s four local pubs. Beyond the town, East Falkland is home to exceptional birdlife and marine mammals including sea lions and dolphins.

The Antarctic Convergence is the boundary zone between oceans that separates the waters surrounding Antarctica and Antarctic and sub-antarctic regions.
Sailing further into the Southern Ocean, the wildlife intensifies as conditions are ideal for phytoplankton and krill in these waters. Onboard lecture topics will focus on the wildlife and history of South Georgia including the fated voyage of Sir Ernest Shackleton.

Visit Sir Ernest Shackleton’s grave 100 years after his death
The sight of tens of millions of breeding penguins, seals and seabirds is one you cannot forget. There is a reason this island is referred to as the Serengeti of the Southern Ocean. Exploring South Georgia’s leeward coast, discover beautiful mountain scenery, glaciers and icebergs in mesmerising shades of blue and a remarkable variety of wildlife.
There is the opportunity to visit the historic Grytviken whaling station and the burial site of Sir Ernest Shackleton. January 2022 marked the centenary of the great explorer’s death. 100 years on, the legacy of Shackleton lives on and a visit to his final resting point is a humbling experience.
Follow in the wake of Sir Ernest Shackleton and his team of five others that traversed these waters in 1916 for 900 miles in an adapted lifeboat on their way to South Georgia.
Marvel at the towering icebergs as they become bigger and more plentiful
The Scotia Sea was named after the expedition ship, Scotia was used in these waters by the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition (1902–04).
With more onboard lectures related to the history, wildlife and geography of the region, you will be gaining a wealth of knowledge. The Seaventure and Island Sky are known for the part they play in scientific research and one of the many benefits of exploring Antarctica with this expedition team is the access to on-the-ground scientific insight.

Over the next few days, the Antarctic voyage will culminate in the world’s most dramatic display of winter landscape and wildlife sightings.
The experienced captain and crew will plot each day according to the weather and migrating wildlife giving you the best opportunity to see the spectacle of Antarctica’s inhabitants. With 18 – 24 hours of daylight to play with, there is ample time for zodiac landings to walk with penguins and seals. Photographers of all levels will delight in the scenic landscape and camera-friendly wildlife.
All guests have the opportunity to partake in the ship’s citizen science programme, helping NASA and the Scripps Institute to record the incredible changes happening in one of the world’s most remote regions. Gathering critical on-site data on a regular basis is key to understanding climate change.
