Highlights

Day 1 - 4: Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

  • Mountain gorilla trekking is a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience
  • Experience breathtaking views of the Virunga volcano range from its hilltop position

Explore the depths of the Volcanoes National Park, one of the most fascinating landscapes in East Africa and home to the famous mountain gorilla.

Begin your adventure in north-western Rwanda where you’ll spend three nights at Virunga Lodge in a luxury bush-chic banda. There is no experience in Africa quite like spending time with mountain gorillas. Head out trekking with a guide into the mountainous forest of the National Park for a thrilling face-to-face encounter with a gorilla group. Beyond this adventure, enjoy climbing a volcano, tracking golden monkeys, hiking up to waterfalls and visiting Diane Fossey’s grave.

Day 4 - 7: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

  • We love the lodge’s location perched up in a Serengeti kopje
  • The game viewing is always excellent but we really love the Serengeti at quieter times of the year

Visit Africa’s most celebrated game reserve, the Serengeti, to catch the Great Wildebeest Migration and unparalleled wildlife sightings.

From Rwanda, fly to the Serengeti National Park where you’ll spend three nights at Lamai Serengeti. Quite possibly the most beautiful safari lodge in East Africa, revel in early breakfasts and sunset suppers from your private verandah overlooking the Serengeti plains. Spend your days spotting vast concentrations of lions, leopards and buffalo from your safari vehicle, or get close to wild animals whilst on an exclusive bush walk through small valleys. Lookout for the migration crossing in the late dry season where wildebeest and zebra jump over crocodile-crowded waters.

Day 7 - 10: Ruaha National Park, Tanzania

  • One of our favourite African lodges offering excellent guiding and game viewing
  • In the Ruaha, you’ll rarely see another person on safari

Experience the ultimate African wilderness in Ruaha National Park, where incredible wildlife populates and where large, dramatic scenery dominates the landscape

From the Serengeti, fly to Ruaha National Park and continue your Tanzanian safari experience at Kigelia Ruaha, one of the original Ruaha bush camps. Here, if you are lucky, you can find very rare sable and kudu, and ancient baobabs scatter the landscape. Enjoy this supremely comfortable and charming camp nestled high on the banks of Ifuguri Sand river. Spend your days encountering diverse wildlife by foot or open sided safari vehicle, before gathering around the campfire to exchange tales. With a sundowner in hand, watch as the baobabs transform into dark silhouettes in Ruaha’s unspoilt wilderness.
