Day 1-3
LISBON, Portugal
A capital city with a village feel, Lisbon is a pocket-sized, pastry-fuelled paradise to spend a couple of days exploring in the sun.
Fly into Lisbon where you’ll spend two nights at Bairro Alto Hotel. Nestled in the heart of Lisbon and bordering the lively districts of Chiado and Barrio Alto, it’s the perfect base to discover the city and it’s key landmarks by foot. Famous for its bright yellow trams, spend half a day getting a feel for Lisbon whilst winding up the seven hills on a private tour, with spectacular views over the Tragus. Bake the celebrated local delicacy of custard tarts at a Pastel de Nata workshop led by a local gastronome, and watch the sunset from a sailing cruise.
Day 3-6
ALENTEJO, Portugal
Rural and rugged, the Alentejo is the road less travelled in Portugal with vineyards, African landscapes and family-run hotels.
Travel east to the largest region in Portugal where you’ll spend three nights in picturesque countryside at Sao Lourenco do Barrocal. Surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and meadows, marvel at this historical family-run estate that serves farm-to-table produce in its nearby medieval villages. For adventure seekers, the bountiful outdoors have so much to offer including horse-riding around the estate, bird-watching with a guide or exploring the nearby Evora and Monsaraz villages. Discover this idyllic landscape with a treasure hunt or upgrade with a hot air balloon trip. By night, enjoy some exceptional star-gazing at the Alqueva Lake Observatory.
Day 6-10
ALGARVE, Portugal
Famous for long stretches of sandy beach, the Algarve is much more than just a beautiful coastline.
Finish your trip by travelling south to the Algarve coastline where you’ll spend four nights at the tranquil boho-chic Vila Monte Farmhouse. Nestled in the rolling hills and surrounded by citrus trees, stay entertained whilst swimming in the pools and rallying on the tennis court. Outside of the farmhouse, the hotel can arrange visits to salt mines, pottery masterclasses and even goat herding in rolling countryside. Upgrade to a private boating experience where you’ll admire the Algarve and its golden beaches, dramatic caves and blue waters, and feast on a picnic on a secluded beach.
Sarah & Michael
We went to Portugal to experience the Douro Valley, but True Travel delivered so much more than that. We loved the experiences we requested, but it was their extra suggestions which made the trip extra special – the Presidential Train was a highlight.
