Why we love it
Set in a grove of magnificent ebony trees Mchenja Bush Camp is a luxurious, elegant and stylish tented camp overlooking a huge sweeping bend in the Luangwa. Each of the five specially designed octagonal tents has their own private en-suite open-air bathroom plus Victorian style baths with a river view. The beautiful central chitenje (lounge) is built around one of the old fallen Mchenja (ebony) trees and guests can cool off there in the campus plunge pool. Brunch is taken in the shady lounge but dinner is more often served on the river bank under the stars.
The rooms are generally spacious, each containing two three-quarter or one king-sized bed. There is wardrobe and shelving
storage in the rooms, and an indoor and/or outdoor comfortable seating area and table. After dark, a member of staff will accompany you to and from your room, lighting the way and watching out for local wildlife.

The team at True Travel had a simple brief: to send us on the world’s best family safari. As soon as our boat headed down the Zambezi, it all kicked off; we passed a herd of hippos, a lazy crocodile and a giraffe drinking nonchalantly on the riverbank. A magical experience from beginning to end. Nothing was too much trouble and if we had any issue that needed resolving, there was always someone on hand to do this. Before and after, they were off the charts – simply an awesome team.
