Example Itinerary

Days 1 – 4

Mexico City

  • View the works of Mexican designers, architects and artists
  • Visit the city’s best museums, including the National Anthropology Museum

Mexico City has always been a creative haven for luminaries in The Arts: Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Luis Barragan, to name a few. Stay at Las Alcobas, a stylish boutique hotel in Mexico City designed by Canadian designer, Yabu Pshelberg.

Over three days (or more if you can spare the time), we will design a journey into the beating heart of Mexican art and architecture, from ancient indigenous artwork to meetings with the most exciting artists and designers living and working in the city today.

Start by stepping back in time at the National Anthropology Museum. The museum contains significant archaeological and anthropological artefacts from Mexico’s pre-Columbian heritage.

Your time in Mexico City will be curated by True Travel to align with your personal tastes. If you are interested in contemporary art, the Museu Jumex should not be missed. This elegant museum is dedicated to a broad and diverse range of contemporary art. Permanent collections include works from Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol. From here, explore the Museo Soumaya with works from Rodin and Dali amongst its master collections. Or discover Mexico City’s Roma Neighborhood with a visit to the ALMANAQUE Photography & Art Gallery, dedicated to contemporary photography.

If you are more interested in traditional and historical art and architecture, we will select the perfect guide and locations for you. The National Museum of History located in Chapultepec Castle is a lovely visit, and the gardens are stunning. We can also include a walking tour of Mexico’s colonial past, taking in the stunning architecture of the city’s most impressive buildings.

During your stay, we will arrange private visits to the studios of up-and-coming artists. We have an excellent book of contacts in the city that will open doors usually closed to the public.

Days 5 – 9

San Miguel de Allende

  • Private art classes with leading artists
  • Explore the colonial architecture of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato

North of Mexico City, the Colonial Cities that ring the highlands and plains of Central Mexico are preserved in time.

A private drive from Mexico City takes you to the picture-perfect town of San Miguel de Allende. There is no shortage of charming boutique hotels to choose from, and we will select the right place for you and your tastes.

San Miguel de Allende is a UNESCO world heritage site with streets lined with colourful buildings and impressive churches. The principal cathedral, La Parroquía presides over the city with a tower lit at night. This immense neo-gothic monument can be seen from almost every direction and rivals Gaudi’s Barcelona. During your stay in this fabulous city, we can arrange private art classes alongside some of the city’s most exciting artists.

Along with your Art Guide, explore the colourful centre of San Miguel de Allende. Visit the latest exhibitions in the town’s art galleries and contemporary art studios at “La Aurora” and the Institute of Culture.

We also highly recommend a day trip to the nearby Colonial town of Guanajuato. This colourful state capital is full of historical gems, including the Juarez Theatre and the Alhondiga de Granaditas, the site of the first rebel victory in the War of Independence.

On your final day in San Miguel de Allende, we can arrange for a culinary guide and private chef to take you on a ‘Taste of Mexico’ journey from market to table. Explore the exotic markets in town, selecting fresh ingredients before returning to the chef’s lovely kitchen where you will prepare a delicious lunch together.
