Why we love it
Set on the banks of the dry Manzi River, this remote lodge is truly magical. Despite the small size (only four chalets), this cosy collection of huts oozes authenticity. Each chalet has a thatched roof and panoramic viewing through the wide-open windows, and at the rear of the huts are open-air bathrooms, with hot water upon request. It’s hard not to fall in love with this place as you jump into bed under your mosquito nets, turn off the paraffin lights and listen to the darkness come alive through the nocturnal animal kingdom.
After a day of exploring and walking through the surrounding secluded ebony and mahogany groves, grab a drink and
prepare for your dinner looking out over a grassy plain with abundant wildlife. At Kuyenda, animal spotting will never end and the big game can be observed right on your doorstep.
Kuyenda is run by the renowned safari guide Phil Berry, who aims to carry the essence of the old Africa, so often lost in modern camps, throughout the lodge. Phil has called the South Luangwa home for more than 30 years and if you’re lucky enough to be there at the same time, a walk with him is a truly unique experience.
Join an experienced guide on a morning or afternoon walk around Kuyenda and the Manzi River to discover some of the South Luangwa most diverse landscapes and inhabitants.
Embark on a morning or early evening game drive to see some of Zambia's extraordinary creatures and to create some long lasting memories.
Stop to enjoy a sundowner by a crackling fire and watch as the landscape comes alive in a blanket of pink and orange light.
Settle down in Kuyenda Bushcamp's traditional lounge and see how many of Zambia's spectacular birds you can spot over the grasses of the neighboroughing plain.

The team at True Travel had a simple brief: to send us on the world’s best family safari. As soon as our boat headed down the Zambezi, it all kicked off; we passed a herd of hippos, a lazy crocodile and a giraffe drinking nonchalantly on the riverbank. A magical experience from beginning to end. Nothing was too much trouble and if we had any issue that needed resolving, there was always someone on hand to do this. Before and after, they were off the charts – simply an awesome team.
