Karoo Lodge at Samara

Samara Private Game Reserve

The Samara game reserve is one of the largest game reserves in South Africa (70 000 acres) and it has a wonderful sense of space; a reminder of the insignificance of humans in comparison to the beauty of the Samara reserve. Samara is situated 55km outside Graaff-Reinet, the fourth oldest town in South Africa. It is full of charm and history, as well as shops, schools and friendly people. This ensures good network links and it can be accessed by air and road. A colonial styled homestead of understated luxury, Karoo Lodge caters for individual travellers and families but can also be booked on an exclusive use basis for up to 18 guests. This is perfect for children over 8 years old when they can officially go on the game drives. They will also receive a goody bag full of exciting things to keep them entertained. The lodge hosts a dining room, pool, great views and much more. The team provide activities including picnic opportunities on the mountains or by the river, with of course the daily game drives to see a variety of wild animals. There are three Karoo style “cottages” with a fireplace and air conditioning, a luxury en-suite bathroom and an outdoor shower. These are situated in the garden. There are four lodge suites in the main homestead. They are light, spacious and airy, all with a veranda, luxury en-suite bathroom and air conditioning. There are two Sibella suites with an en-suite shower with a shared veranda overlooking the abundant wildlife at the waterhole. Both are with air conditioning. This is ideal for two couples or for a family of four.
