Why we love it
A tented camp with spectacular views on the banks of the Luangwa River. The only true bush camp open for the entire green season. This beautiful camp has four traditional walk-in safari tents each with en-suite bathrooms made from natural materials.
The rooms are generally spacious, each containing two three-quarter or one king-sized bed. Wardrobe and shelving storage is available in the rooms, as well as indoor and outdoor comfortable seating areas with tables.
The private open-air en-suite bathrooms have plenty of hot water, towels and toiletries. After dark, a member of staff will accompany you to and from your room, lighting the way and watching out for local wildlife.
A lovely thatched chitenje acts as the centre of camp. It is on a wooden deck overlooking the grazing lawn that leads down to the two rivers. This is the perfect spot in which to relax and watch the wildlife meander by; the views from Kakuli are spectacular.
The area is renowned for some of the best game viewing opportunities in Zambia, with abundant leopards, a resident lion pride and a seasonal colony of the beautiful carmine bee-eaters.
Feel like a true explorer and sleep out under constellations of stars in this unique camping experience to witness Africa at night.
Stay in originally sited camps by legendary conservationist Norman Carr, and experience Luangwa from the best game areas in the whole of the national park.
Float down Zambia's Luangwa and Zambezi rivers on this adventure, to catch glimpses of thirsty leopards or wallowing hippos in ancient rivers and open pans.
Do not be surprised if you are interrupted by a grazing giraffe whilst watching the animals gathering around the waterhole from Kakuli's wildlife hide.
Explore the panoramic landscape on the front door of Kakuli Camp and get up close to a variety of animals including a seasonal colony of the beautiful carmine bee-eaters.
Discover the 'secret season' from January to April where flooded forests offer a haven for migrant birds, including Africa's largest yellow billed stork colony.

The team at True Travel had a simple brief: to send us on the world’s best family safari. As soon as our boat headed down the Zambezi, it all kicked off; we passed a herd of hippos, a lazy crocodile and a giraffe drinking nonchalantly on the riverbank. A magical experience from beginning to end. Nothing was too much trouble and if we had any issue that needed resolving, there was always someone on hand to do this. Before and after, they were off the charts – simply an awesome team.
