The result is a melting pot of cultures that make it a tantalising country to visit. The relics of Guatemala’s Mayan past are not easy to find; most of the temples and sprawling cities lie in peace beneath netted vines and impenetrable jungle, but the spirit of this lost world is still very much alive. It is not for everyone; Guatemala is a wild and untamed country, but free spirits with an open mind will find a visit here to be spiritually rejuvenating.
