Example Itinerary

Day 1-2

SJAVNJA NATURE RESERVE, Sweden

  • Learn about the history, traditions and the reindeer herds of the indigenous Sámi People
  • Try the traditional Sámi way to travel in winter through the wilderness – on wooden cross country skis

Glamp in a traditional tipi in the heart of the Sjavnja Nature Reserve for your first chance of a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

At Sápmi Nature Camp you will have the full attention and expertise of the incredible founder, Lennart Pittja. Lennart will share his insights with you on the area, as well as the history and future direction of the indigenous Sámi People, including the challenges they face. During your stay in the Sjavnja Nature Reserve, you can explore the wilderness either by snowshoe or by traditional wooden cross country skiing, meet the reindeer herders of the Sámi people and ride across the snow on a reindeer sleigh. Once darkness falls, you can get your first chance to see the Northern Lights while you stand on a frozen lake, before settling into your Lavu tipi for a glamping experience like no other.

Day 2-3

JUKKASJARVI, Sweden

  • Try delicious northern Swedish cuisine at the Aurora Sky Station, before hoping to catch the Northern Lights in all their glory
  • Sleep in a hotel whose structure, rooms and decorations are made completely from sculpted ice, harvested from the natural River Torne

Enjoy an Arctic experience like no other with an evening staying at the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi.

Journey to Jukkasjarvi, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle to stay at the infamous Ice Hotel, built entirely from the natural ice harvested from Sweden’s River Torne. Warm chalets are also available if you would rather not try sleeping in an igloo. Every winter, a team of highly skilled engineers and artists create the structure and its incredibly detailed decorations, making each year unique and different for its guests. Learn about the craft yourself with an intensive course in creative ice sculpting at the hotel, or learn how to use the sauna like a local with a plunge in the icy river. Dog sledding through the snowy arctic wilderness is a must, as is an evening drive with an expert for dinner at the Aurora Sky Station on Mount Nuolja, understood to be the best place in the world to see the Northern Lights.

Day 3-6

 KIRUNA, Sweden

  • Journey through the Arctic forests and frozen tundras on a snowmobile wilderness adventure
  • Watch the magical Northern Lights dance across the Auroral Oval, away from any light pollution

Immerse yourself in the unique and pristine wilderness of Arctic Lapland in an oasis of comfort and tranquility.

Be surrounded by unspoilt wilderness near Lake Väkkärä on the outskirts of Kiruna and Jukkasjärvi. Stay in The Fjellborg Arctic Lodge, where you can try your hand at ice fishing on a frozen lake, snowmobiling across the tundra and a 360-degree viewing of the Northern Lights. Watch the dazzling display of colour and light dance above in the Auroral Oval away from light pollution, whilst sitting in the outdoor hot tub or on a dog sledge ride. During your stay, the Fjellborg family will be your guides and your personal chef will serve delicious Lappish dishes using the freshest, locally sourced fish, game, vegetables, berries and mushrooms.

Testimonial

Vivienne

We went looking for the Northern Lights and got so much more – snowmobiling, husky sledding, and we were hosted by lovely people. It was a pleasure planning our trip with Molly; she understood exactly what we were looking for from our snowy adventure!
