Discover kings, queens, clubs and courtesans. The walking tour starts in Trafalgar Square, once the site of the Royal Mews, where you will hear about the development of the area so long closely associated with royalty and court hangers-on. As you wander through Westminster and St James’, expert guide Viv will weave into her narrative the development of our system of constitutional monarchy, while guiding you to royal homes past and present – including, of course, Buckingham Palace.

You will see the ‘Coronation Church’ and the Palace of Westminster where the Queen annually demonstrates her function within our system of parliamentary democracy at the State Opening of Parliament. The area is home to many of our ‘Gentlemen’s Clubs’ – founded in the 1700’s and 1800’s, they have changed to embrace modern times but still occupy their original beautiful premises. King Henry VIII built St James’s Palace in the early 1500’s and the area has always attracted the socially aspirational, whose shopping needs have been elegantly served by the fabulous Royal Warrant Shops, which have existed close by for hundreds of years. You will also take in the delights of St James’s Square, which was the first ‘square’ to be developed in London before ending your walk back in Trafalgar Square.
Join Viv, an expert and qualified Blue Badge Guide and City Guide, to discover the stories behind London’s most recognisable sights and hidden gems, with a private guided walking tour.
