Discover the City of London – from Boudicca to Bloomberg. Starting your Walking Tour near the Tower of London, wandering through the ‘Square Mile’ and hearing stories of London as a market place from Roman times to the present day. The City has risen like a phoenix from the ashes after two disasters – the Great Fire of 1666 and the Blitz of the Second World War – and the place is constantly reinventing itself. The Monument stands as a majestic reminder of that first catastrophe.

It is largely thanks to the devastation of the bombing of the Blitz that we know so much about how the Romans lived in London. The juxtaposition of the very old with the very new lends an architectural richness to the City unlike anywhere else in London. As well as Wren’s masterpiece, St Paul’s Cathedral, which was built out of the ashes of the Great Fire, you will pass many other Wren gems. Viv will talk about the Livery Companies, many of which have stunning Halls, and you will hear about the role of the Lord Mayor who lives in Mansion House. You will hear how many of the City institutions – the stock exchange, Lloyds Insurance Market etc – morphed out of the Coffee Shops of the 17th Century, finishing right in front of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Join Viv, an expert and qualified Blue Badge Guide and City Guide, to discover the stories behind London’s most recognisable sights and hidden gems, with a private guided walking tour.
