HOME > JOURNALThe Data Pulse – 8th May 2021

The UK government has announced that from 17th May international travel can resume following a traffic light system. We will continue to display the changing rate of infections over time within Europe, following trends in cases to predict destinations that will likely move from amber onto the green list for this summer. We will bring the latest insights, news and predictions, based on worldwide case rates and vaccination numbers, to help you plan future trips in the most informed way possible as the world opens up again.

8th May 2021

UK: The green list has now been released with an initially small (and perhaps impractical) list of countries that you can now travel to without any form of quarantine on return home to the UK. Whilst you may not be rushing to book a trip to South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands any time soon, we were delighted to see countries such as Portugal and Israel included.

With rates falling in Italy, France and Spain,  it’s not the end of your European summer dreams. Though the government does not currently allow travel for leisure purposes to amber list countries, we’re excited to see the data moving in our favour – and away from red – in time for a list update before the end of spring.

It’s important to note that just because we can return from green list countries without quarantine in the UK, it does not mean we can necessarily travel to those countries without quarantine measures – so don’t book those tickets without checking first!

US: With the impressive vaccination rollout, and only the need to present a negative PCR on return to the US, the world is your oyster when it comes to travel. In Europe we have already had confirmation of the following countries opening to tourists from the US: Greece 14th May, Italy 1st June & France 9th June. We expect news of Spain, Portugal, the UK and Ireland opening to happen in the next few weeks.

Elsewhere in the world, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Rwanda are all already open. As we write, we have numerous set of guests from the US travelling throughout Africa.
