Day 1-2
AUCKLAND, New Zealand
A harbour city surrounded by water on both sides, Auckland buzzes with life and activities and boasts a particularly delicious foodie scene.
Fly into Auckland where you’ll spend the day and night unwinding post-flight. After freshening up at The Sofitel, wander down to Auckland Harbour for some fresh air and take in the stunning sea views. From the harbour, hop on a ferry over to Waiheke Island to spend an afternoon wandering around Auckland’s seaside destination, with a distinctive hippy vibe and hundreds of art galleries. Upon your return, you can visit Auckland’s foodie neighbourhood of Ponsonby, choosing from cult food truck markets to upscale gastropubs.
Day 2-5
BAY OF ISLANDS, New Zealand
Stay in the tropical paradise of the Bay of Islands, home to 140 islands and celebrated for its unspoilt beaches, Maori cultural relics and big game fishing.
Fly to the Bay of Islands for three nights at The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs. Join one of the lodge’s guides to test your skills at land-based fishing from one of their private beaches. The waters are filled with snapper and kahawai, and your catch will be taken to the lodge and cooked for you that evening. For those wanting to devour their catch sooner, fish off the famous Pink beach, set up with a permanent barbeque station and picnic tables. Here, the chefs will pair your seafood with fine local cheese and wine. Beyond the lodge, we can arrange for you to practice your swing on Kauri Cliffs Golf Course, ranked 37th in the world.
Day 5-7
TAUPO, New Zealand
Set near the geothermal Craters of the Moon reserve, Taupo is a prime fly fishing destination and a must on any angler’s trip to New Zealand.
Continue with a flight to Taupo, a bustling little town nestled between the Waikato River and the edge of Lake Taupo. You’ll spend two nights at Huka Lodge, set amongst acres of private grounds for guaranteed privacy. Within the grounds, relax on the perfectly manicured Yoga Lawn or enjoy a friendly game of tennis. With Taupo’s rivers considered some of the best in the world for fly fishing, we can arrange a trip to the shallows for a spot of fly fishing. With spawning brown and river trout filling these waters, you’re not likely to be disappointed with your catch.
Day 7-10
TAHARUA VALLEY, New Zealand
Renowned throughout the country as a luxury sporting retreat, Poronui is nestled in the secluded Taharua Valley and boasts the ultimate Kiwi fly fishing lodge.
Drive half an hour from Huka Lodge to Poronui Lodge, taking in the beautiful lake and valley vistas as you arrive into Taharua Valley. Poronui provides all of the modern comforts in an old school lodge setting, nestled in the wilderness of the North Island. As an angler’s paradise, crystal clear trout rivers surround the lodge and fly fishing is a must for any guest. We can arrange a day of private heli flying for an exclusive fishing experience; you’ll be taken deep into the mountains where huge trout hide in some of Taharua’s more challenging waters. Any catch you make here will never be forgotten!
Day 10-15
AHURIRI VALLEY, New Zealand
Ahuriri Valley offers scenic views of wetlands and tussock lands as well as being framed by the mountains and rugged farmlands. You’ll feel like the only people in the world whilst staying here.
Catch a flight from the North Island to Queenstown, where you’ll be transferred to The Lindis for the final leg of your trip. Beautifully nestled into the hillside, The Lindis offers ultimate seclusion and makes for the perfect final destination for unwinding or exploring. With an abundance of exciting activities available, from horse trekking through the surrounding farmland to walking the rugged mountain countryside and e-biking through the valley, a stay at The Lindis allows you to do as little or as much as you like.
Lesley & Harry
We had such a wonderful holiday. Katie put together a brilliant itinerary, which we tweaked a little in places, and the accommodation she chose was first class. She gave us great recommendations of activities and the whole trip went smoothly. Timings worked well between destinations because she had good knowledge of New Zealand, and the driving distances, car changes, ferry crossings, meeting points for activities were all easily achievable.
