Fiordland Lodge
Te Anau, Fiordland , New Zealand
Why we love it
Fiordland Lodge, located in a World Heritage Area, is based in the ideal position from which explore Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and the Fiordland National Park. Fiordland Lodge ensures absolute comfort and privacy, sitting itself in an incredibly rural position and overlooking Lake Te Anau.
The rural nature of the lodge continues with its architecture, with beautiful natural timber, logs as well as local river stone forming the lounge. Fiordland Lodge is the perfect retreat from which to explore the spectacular surrounding nature made up of mountains, ice rivers, lakes and untouched forests.
Spend a day with a local farmer, exploring the incredible scenery on the back of a jet boat, before visiting his farm for lunch and a tour.
Relax onboard a private guided cruise through the majestic Milford Sound, surrounded by some of the world's highest waterfalls.
Travel out to a deserted bay to encounter the world's second rarest penguin breed, the Fiordland Crested Penguin, commonly found amongst ferns or in the water.
Cycle the perimeter of Lake Te Anau then up the Waiau River, a great combination for stunning vistas of the Fiordland Mountains.
Zip around the Waiau River on a jet boat for a chance to see Fiordland's jaw-dropping scenery and try to catch one of the brown and rainbow trout that call the rivers here home.
After a picnic lunch on the beach, embark on a hike through the setting of the Lord for the Rings trilogy and cross the giant swing bridge over Waiau River.
Capture stunning photographs of the New Zealand wildlife as a Wildlife Photographer of the Year shows you how to capture the best angles.

We had such a wonderful holiday. Katie put together a brilliant itinerary, which we tweaked a little in places, and the accommodation she chose was first class. She gave us great recommendations of activities and the whole trip went smoothly. Timings worked well between destinations because she had good knowledge of New Zealand, and the driving distances, car changes, ferry crossings, meeting points for activities were all easily achievable.
