Bhutan - Paro - Tigers Nest

Paro

Bhutan

Paro is a historic town in the Paro district of Bhutan. The Paro Chhu valley is the only place in Bhutan with wide enough flood plains, to allow international flights to land. This picturesque valley is covered in rice fields, with a glacial river snaking through the middle, all under the towering snow topped peaks of the Himalayas. The landing into Paro is spectacular and the airport is just as beautiful. The Paro region is also home to a variety of historical and sacred sites including Paro Taksang, most commonly known as the Tiger’s Nest. The Tiger’s Nest is one of Bhutan’s most sacred Buddhist monasteries and many climb to reach the Tiger’s Nest which is positioned 3,120 metres on the Paro cliffside each day. The climb takes anywhere from 4 to 6 hours with a cafe midway for a simple cup of tea or coffee. Paro is also home to the National Museum and Paro Dzong. To end a holiday, you will be welcomed into Paro Dzong to light your own butter lamp.
