Visit Gonarezhou
Gonarezhou is Zimbabwe’s second largest national park and its name translates from Shona as ‘place of elephants’. The park characterises itself by the distinct orange sandstone of the well know Chilojo Cliffs. Across the park, river floodplains are interspersed with lagoons and forest, attracting a great variety of wildlife making for the richest biodiversity of any Zimbabwe national park.
Gonarezhou has the greatest diversity of birds in the country, with over 400 species, an elephant population of around 11,000 and over ten packs of wild dog. Not only that, Gonarezhou is the only park in Southern Africa which is home to all size of the smallest antelope – a wildlife lover’s paradise.
Jen & George
We were bundled into a vehicle and dashed off to see a leopard within the first 30 minutes of arriving; it was an AWESOME start. Our guide completely made the entire experience. He was an exceptional birder and his best party trick was to point out the bird and then tell us the exact page we could find it in our book. We combined Zimbabwe with Mozambique, and our beach hotel felt like a complete hidden gem. The sand is like ‘moon dust’ and the hospitality and food were fantastic.
