Why we love it
Royal Chundu, which means ‘a meeting place of the chief’, is a haven of quiet solitude and untouched beauty where guests and Africa live in harmony for a special moment in time. Together with the support of the communities, Royal Chundu strives to enhance the conservation and unspoiled beauty of this land, river and its islands, ensuring it will be enjoyed by future generations. Family-owned and run, Royal Chundu comprises two lodges on the banks of the Zambezi, just upstream from the Victoria Falls.
Experience celebrations such as the parrotfish migration up the Zambezi river and immerse yourself in the culture of the local communities who call the surrounding riverbanks home. Experience the very best that Zambia has to offer with a variety of tours, from helicopter flights and canoeing, to Katombora island walks and sunset cruises. Royal Chundu offers a true African experience for its guests by providing their own private sanctuary in the heart of Africa.
Start with a leisurely paddle down the Zambezi River to a secret picnic spot on an island, where you will be greeted with a refreshing glass of Pimms and delicious tapas dishes.
Enjoy a gin and tonic to the sounds of snorting hippos and the sight of crocodiles slipping off the river banks, on a sunset cruise down the Zambezi River.
Shallow rapids and deep flowing rivers offer some superb fly fishing opportunities, to catch and release tiger fish, bream and the prized Upper Zambezi yellow fish.
Take to the skies to see the magical winding of the Zambezi River and the crashing of the Victorian Falls by helicopter.
Test your nerves in the Devil's Pool and peek over the top of the Victorian Falls, or visit Livingstone's Island during the 'low water' season.
Visit Chobe National Park in neighbouring Botswana, where you will be taken on a guided game cruise on the Chobe River and a game drive before enjoying lunch at Chobe Lodge.
Jump in and ride the 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Washing Machine' rapids of the fourth largest river in Africa, the Zambezi.
Experience the magic of the Lunar Rainbow over the Victoria Falls, so named for refracting the light of the moon in the months from March to July.

The team at True Travel had a simple brief: to send us on the world’s best family safari. As soon as our boat headed down the Zambezi, it all kicked off; we passed a herd of hippos, a lazy crocodile and a giraffe drinking nonchalantly on the riverbank. A magical experience from beginning to end. Nothing was too much trouble and if we had any issue that needed resolving, there was always someone on hand to do this. Before and after, they were off the charts – simply an awesome team.
