Set in a grove of magnificent ebony trees Mchenja Bush Camp is a luxurious, elegant and stylish tented camp overlooking a huge sweeping bend in the Luangwa. Each of the five specially designed octagonal tents has their own private en-suite open-air bathroom plus Victorian style baths with a river view. The beautiful central chitenje (lounge) is built around one of the old fallen Mchenja (ebony) trees and guests can cool off there in the campus plunge pool. Brunch is taken in the shady lounge but dinner is more often served on the river bank under the stars. The rooms are generally spacious, each containing two three-quarter or one king-sized bed. There is wardrobe and shelvinggstorage in the rooms, and an indoor and/or outdoor comfortable seating area and table. Chongwe River Camp is nestled under a complete canopy of huge winter thorn acacias, in an area where elephants are more numerous than people – there are no fences and the animals have complete right of way.
The name Anabezi is derived from the camp being situated on the Zambezi River and the many Ana Trees or Winter Thorns (Faidherbia albida) that surround the camp.
