Kyambura Gorge Lodge
Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda
Why we love it
This eclectic contemporary safari lodge in Uganda has been converted from an old coffee processing plant and is an ideal location for Uganda safari activities including chimpanzee trekking, wetland tours, lion safaris, and much more. Kyambura Gorge Lodge boasts incredible views overlooking the Queen Elizabeth National Park, with the mythical Mountains of the Moon in the far distance.
The lodge has been built using environmentally-friendly, local materials by the community. Accommodation is provided in seven spacious and tastefully designed self contained grass-thatched cottages, with bath tubs/showers with views to the
park, hot and cold running water, equipped with 220V electricity and a private wooden balcony perched over Queen Elisabeth National Park. All cottages are surrounded by jungle and spaced out to ensure ultimate privacy.
There is a swimming pool, adjacent to the camp fire where a local traditional dance is often performed (Banyaruguru troupe). The restaurant and the lounge open towards a sundowner deck which overlooks the National Park. A perfect setting to relax in the evenings while discussing up the day’s activities.
Follow chimps as they swing through the trees and rustle through the undergrowth, descending down gorges and across ravines to keep up with these spectacular primates.
Explore Queen Elizabeth National Park with an experienced guide at dusk or dawn to spot two of Africa's big cats - the lion and the elusive leopard.
Assist a local researcher in his study of tree climbing lions around the National Park where you can record the behaviour of these majestic lions as they lounge in a fig tree.
Cruise down the wildlife rich Kazinga channel, the body of water linking Lake Edward and Lake George, and spot a variety of animals as they cool off in the waters.
Stroll through coffee plantations and witness Ugandan coffee being made by hand by local community members before trying the finished product for yourself.
Be guided through the 45 acre land of this rehabilitated wetland, where over 500 indigenous trees have been planted, attracting over 200 species of birds.

It was absolutely magical. As soon as we turned the corner and saw the first gorilla, I started to cry because I was so happy. They were also fantastic lodge recommendations from the True Travel team! Bwindi Lodge was hands down my favourite, amd we also loved getting out of the car and hiking to get there. As you’ll see, my dream of being close to the gorillas really came true. We had such a wonderful time, and thank you for your help making it come to life.
